The Rix Centre Charity was commissioned by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in 2009 in response to the government’s Six Lives Report. We ran a series of workshops using the Multimedia Advocacy approach to capture the experiences that participants, many with profound disabilities and complex needs, have had using healthcare services in the borough. This research was designed to identify ways to improve the standard of healthcare in the borough for people with learning disabilities.
Three service users from Tower Hamlets were selected to form an inclusive production team and were trained by The Rix Centre in Multimedia Advocacy, interviewing and video production techniques. The resulting DVD & project findings made a powerful impact and led to further work with Tower Hamlets around the production of inclusive health DVDs for staff training.
